Spotlight on Maryland

Welcome to the Comptroller of Maryland's Internet tax filing system. This system allows online electronic filing of resident personal income tax returns along with the most commonly associated schedules and forms.
Important Notice:

Opening of the 2023 Tax Filing Season

The online iFile application is supporting tax years 2021, 2022, 2023 and estimated payments for tax year 2024.

We stop processing returns and payments each year during our annual cut over period from late December to mid-January. Debits scheduled to be withdrawn between 12/26/2023 and the date we resume processing may be delayed.

What you will need to get started:
  • A completed federal return. You will need information from your federal return in order to complete your Maryland return. If you wish to electronically file your federal income tax return, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has entered into agreements with several private companies to provide free electronic filing of federal returns. Some of the companies are including State returns as well. Visit the IRS Free File web page to see if you qualify.
  • If you wish to calculate your Maryland 502 (Resident) return on paper before using this application, click here for Forms and Instructions.
  • Copies of your W2, W2G, 1099R and 1099G forms.
  • Google Chrome is recommended for best performance with JavaScript and cookies enabled.
